CODE OF PRACTICE FOR MARRIAGE CELEBRANTS (regulation 37L)

1. APPLICATION OF THIS CODE OF PRACTICE
This Code of Practice applies to marriage celebrants (being persons registered under Subdivision C of Division 1 of Part IV of the Marriage Act 1961). Note: Under paragraph 39I(1)(b) of the Marriage Act 1961, if the Registrar of Marriage Celebrants is satisfied that a marriage celebrant has not complied with an obligation under section 39G of that Act, including this Code of Practice, the Registrar may take disciplinary measures against the marriage celebrant.

Many of the ceremonies that I perform are created over many months of planning, however funerals are very different and are usually arranged within a few days.

Funerals can be confronting. Strong emotional connections to people can make it difficult to find the words ot express how we feel. We can feel gratitude for their contribution to our lives but we can find it difficult to express the words that accurately portray the impact of their lives on their family and community. How do you sum up someone’s life in a short eulogy?

This is a special ceremony for couples who wish to renew their vows in a personal and unique way. You may have been married abroad and wish to declare your love for each other with your family and friends, or you may wish to mark a special anniversary (for example, 25 years together) as a couple to re-affirm your love in a personal way before your friends and loved ones.
